FOREWORD TO SECOND EDITION
This second edition of the Authors Style and Format Guide for Manuscript Preparation is an update to the first edition. The few changes that have been made will hardly be noted by most authors. Most are the minor things that the EIC and the technical editor will note and correct during processing of accepted manuscripts. Most of the changes in style are related to electronic submission of manuscripts, which is now strongly encouraged and will likely soon be required. The use of abbreviations has been expanded for both common terms in molecular biology and for units of time. Two changes are made with regard to literature citations, the preferred style for citations in parenthesis in the text will now be to list citations in chronological order rather than former style of listing in alphabetical order. Additionally in the Literature Cited section, initials for authors will now follow the surname, except for editors of books (Author, X. Y., and Colleague, H. J., 1999. Contribution title. Pg 100-110 in F. Jones and B. W. Smith, eds. Book title. Place:Publisher.) This guide now also provides examples for the correct format for citation of items from the world wide web and instructions for preparing digital figures. Additionally, I have attempted to correct a few errors found in the first edition, hopefully without introducing any new errors. Authors are encouraged to send their comments concerning this guide and on the style and format for the Journal of Nematology to the EIC or members of the Editorial Board. Close attention by authors to the many details in this guide will result in smoother and more timely processing of manuscripts.
